Kent : Erm...Not really used 2 foreign bed...
Juin : it was too cold...Brun u roll sushi..i cant get enough blanket..
Steph & Viv : Very Cold...
Chuen : Got weird sound eh...Dunno who's voice...
Me? I was the only one who seems to have no problem sleeping there...I rolled myself with blanket afterall. =p sorry Juin!
Ok. Lesson learned...Room temp was set to 5'C. (I doubt the air cond can provide d temp, but it's d lowest) So it was then tuned up for the night after. Lesson 2, ppl that sleeping on d same bed with me shud wake me up if I ever "roll sushi"...=p
So after a morning shower and suitably groomed, let's head for breakfast!!!
The place is a morning market, somewhere near kek lok si, another tourist attraction point in Penang island. Traffic's pretty dense here, so be advised to park ur car around designated parkings near the market ourskirt. Any attempt to park closer to d market will result in scratches on car, unable to get out of car and possible ran over by city's buses.
The Food
After a short strolling, we came to a narrow road, where the long running famous curry mee resides.
The "ah mah"s. They're 1 of the few who still cook with charcoal stoves.
This stall is so well known that it made it to many food journals and news strips of Penang's famous food, as 1 of the oldest established curry mee stall that's still selling well now. A little chatter with the grannies revealed that their masterpiece may not last for another 10 years, as thr's no one to inherit the stall. So if u're visiting in the not too distant future please look this place!
Introducing the "ah mah"s...Like they're statues.
The yummy curry mee. The best that I've tasted so far.
After that, we went for another famous local delicacy that's few steps away from the stall.
The label said it all. In case u're too dumb to read, it reads "Brined duck's guts".
The food itself. It's well marinated in the soup, thus extremely flavourful.
After the delicious duck, we were going to have to Penang's most famous Asam Laksa which is again, few steps away from the duck place. Sadly it would not start selling until 11.30am. So off to the attraction spot!
Kek Lok Si
You can walk ur way up here from d morning market, like we did. But if u're too lazy to move ur flab infested body then u might just drive ur way up to the top and walk down...and up again.
Yes, the "inclined lift". A lift which is inclined.^^,
At some point u'll have to take the inclined lift to get to the top of the temple, where the magnificent, under construction bronze "Guan Yin" statue resides. The ticket price's RM4 (2 ways) for adult. Or u can buy urself a 1 way ticket to the top if u plan to spend d rest of ur life there. XD
Once on top, the 1st thing u'll see is 12 statues laying around the green green grass area of the temple, each representing an animal from the 12 chinese zodiac.
4 pigs.
飞跃青春!!!差D飞落个池就真...
The magnificent Guan Yin statue. What's under construction was a "Hut" to shield her from the sun i guess..
My "ah 4". How come he wears shades but I don't?Well my eyes r perfect.
Bukit Bendera
Ok, we're done with Kek lok Si. But it's still not 11.30am...So we'll head to another T.A.P (tourist attraction point), the flag raising hill. Bukit Bendera it is XD
The fountain near entrance.
It's so crowded here at the ticket counter it has to be closed for another hour. Actually the cable car to d top runs on a schedule, so if u're so happened to get here at d wrong time...tough luck. So wait it is...There's a "Mini Museum" here u can visit meanwhile...a reall Mini one.
"I wonder if I could take it home..."
It's a long, long way up there. Not surprising if u're going up, 692 metres above sea level.
What u get to see when u're up here. The stunning view of the whole Penang Island...at least the civillized part.
Enjoying d view here~
Poor Chuen had no idea what's coming his way...
"I wonder if I can take this home too."
Ok, enough of sight seeing and cool air. After hours walking around under the sun, it's time to enjoy the much anticipated Asam Laksa...Have to go all the way back to the market then.
Excellent. Worth every single steps.
Gurney Plaza
After the meal, let's get to somewhere with air-conditioning, finally. The place is none other than Gurney Plaza, another prestigious establishment here, another being Queensbay Mall.
I expect anyone with eyes to read this.We came across "Wong Kok Kitchen" and I insisted we get 1 of these...
"BO LO Bao" this with butter as core.and...
Egg Tarts. After that, let's have our dinner for real. Also meeting up with 1 of our friend who's currently studying in USM. The place is called "House of steamboat".
woops! should be town of steamboat then...but the translation is awfully wrong. This place ain't really has one of the best steamboat cum barbeque I've ever been to in term of taste. But it has the best variety of choices though. You can find...
What?ain't we dipping our raw food into the soup in steamboat already?? These are with wooden skewers, mind u.
Too darn much choices of raw meat...nice.
Oh they have salad bar as well.
And dim sum???@.@ U wouldnt find this in KL...I mean steamboat places with dim sum.
And steamed crab!!?
Even SHARK FIN!!?!?
Ok,something less surprising, finally. All these costed a mere RM17.90. It's worth every penny...
Trivia
2. The market is filthy, crowded with both people and vehicles. Watch ur step there.
3. There's 2 Asam Laksa stalls at the market. Choose the 1 near the outer wall of the market, with a sigh "Ayer Itam Asam Laksa"...I think.
4. The ride to the top of Bukit Bendera costed as much as the inclined lift. But it's one way ticket is RM1 more than the inclined lift's.
5. The temperature is lower on top of Bukit Bendera.
6. The BO LO bun in gurney plaza's Wong Kok's Kitchen is selling very, very fast. Make sure u're there early in the morning of afternoon if u wanna get some.
7. There's standing air-conditioner at some tables at "Town of steamboat". Needless to say it's d best seat u can get.
8. We spent our day 2 night playing guessing games.
